Classroom Handouts are easy with Notebook Software!

October 28, 2010

Using SMART Notebook Software we can use the print feature to print our notes in a variety of ways.  We have the option of printing thumbnails, thumbnails with a place for notes or entire pages.  The option to print with a place for notes is great for students with Learning Disabilities because you can print out the notes ahead of time and they can follow along and make additional comments to help them better understand the material instead of stressing about the information on the pages.

Modifying your Pens

October 27, 2010

The default for the first four pens in Notebook Software (the ones in the pen icon in the toolbar) are identical to the pens in your pen tray.  Why have two of the same tool?  To modify the pens in Notebook software, click on the pen you want to change and then click on the properties tab (the one with the square with 4 colours, the A and the lines) and change the pen to what you want to have.  Now click on Save Tool Properties and you will have that pen at your disposal whenever you click on the pen icon!

Organize using the Attachments Tab

October 25, 2010

The Attachments tab (the icon on the side of Notebook Software that looks like a paperclip) is a great tool to keep all of our files in one place.   For example, if we are doing a unit on Measuring Angles we can put the presentation into Notebook and then use the attachment tab to keep our handouts, quizzes, videos, answer keys, assignments and any other files with it.  Now we only have to look for one file as the others will be attached!

Weather Calendar – How many sunny days this month?

October 7, 2010

In the primary grades, you might want to keep a weather calendar.  Use the calendar creator in the Gallery.  HINT:  Search for calendar and then look in the interactive and multimedia folder.  Now search for weather symbols.  Drag a picture of a sun, a cloud, rain etc. onto the Notebook page.  Move them into an area on the calendar that has no number.  Infinitely clone them so that you can have the students drag the symbol but it will leave a copy for another day.  At the end of the month, count the number of sunny, rainy, cloudy etc. days.  You could even graph them.  Over the school year, compare the months to see how weather changes.

Ideas for using the Letter Dice

October 6, 2010

In the Gallery you will find a ton of interactive dice (Search Dice, click on Interactive and Multimedia).  A great way to infuse a sense of fun into your language lessons is to put letter dice on the board and have students roll them!  When a letter comes up, have the students pick vocabulary words that start with that letter, or have them think of words on a specific topic that start with that letter.  Try putting multiple letter dice on the board, roll them all and then have the students create short sentences that have a word starting with each letter.
