Standard Units of Measure no Longer a Problem

December 19, 2012

One thing I have noticed is that you can change the size of the ruler by dragging the handle at the bottom right of the ruler.  This is something I don’t want the students to do when they are measuring several lines because it changes the value of the units.  Therefore, I always add the ruler to the page and immediately right click or click on the drop down menu and choose Locking.  From the locking menu, I click on Allow move and rotate.  Then the students can still use the ruler but they will not alter the unit value.

Those Sneaky Measurement Tools

December 12, 2012

Have you used the ruler from the Measurement Tools in the Actions Panel in Notebook 11?   I realized you could move and rotate it and that by dragging the end of the ruler, it could be made longer or shorter but I recently discovered that if I drag a pen along the top of the ruler, it makes a perfect straight line!  The pen adheres to the geodreieck tool and protractor as well.  Those sneaky little tools, grab the pen and don’t let go until you do!

Talking Heads in Notebook Software!

December 5, 2012

WidgetsLast month, I have discovered www.voki.com.   At this site, you can create an avatar, add your voice and then watch as the avatar speaks your words.  The great thing is that you can imbed this voki into Notebook.  At Hallowe’en, I created a pumpkin voki and it spoke instructions for our activities.  The kids loved it!

Many of the voki characters are free but in order to access all of them, there is a low annual fee.  This also allows your students to participate in making the talking heads and they don’t have to have their own login.

I wrote out instructions for the rest of the people on my staff.  You might want to download them and try making your own voki!  Just note that when you come to the page in Notebook that contains your voki, it won’t appear if you are not connected to the Net.

Click here to download instructions on how to make a Voki.
