Card #17 – ABBABB Patterning

Children find reading easier if they understand patterns. Learn how you can make them on your SMART Board. I love the activity on this card of the month because I can make it in about one minute and I can create it for special occasions by giving it a spring, Christmas, Hanukah, Hallowe’en etc. theme.

Card #16 – Show and Tell for all Ages

We want to keep the working area of the SMART Board free of extraneous information but sometimes, you need a definition, formula, instructions etc. to be handy. Learn to create pull tabs in this card of the month. This will allow you to hide information at the sides or top of the board, that can be retrieved quickly and easily.

Card #15 – Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven…

Do you use timers in your classroom?

The card of the month will show you two that can be found in the Gallery. It will also give you ideas for tailoring them to suit your needs. Use them for quick writes and silent reading time. Time how long it takes to clean up the classroom and the next day, see if they can beat the time.

Card #14 – Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

This card of the month will show you how to create a game using one of the templates from the Lesson Activity Toolkit. It can be used at any grade level and I have even used it with adults as a fun activity at our annual Open House night. We had prizes but you don’t have to. The kids will enjoy the fun just because they love to win!

Card #13 – Pop it!

Teachers love the popping balloons that they find in the SMART Exchange but you don’t have to go there to find them. They can be found in the Gallery in SMART Notebook. Learn to edit the words on the front and hide things behind so that something is revealed when the students touch the balloon.

Think about all the ways you can use the balloons and share your ideas with me, please!

In the Gallery, you will find pictures of Euros and American, British and Canadian money. This month’s card will show you how to create a quick money activity for students who need to learn to count money and make change. In the process you will learn or review how to infinitely clone.

This lesson can be made in less than three minutes, once you know the technique, and quick lessons are what it’s all about!

Card #11 Other People have Done the Work for You!

Have you been to the SMART Exchange lately? If not, this month’s card will explain a few details for downloading and making the files your own.

The SMART exchange has files for your SMART Board, Table, Math Tools and more. Check out the widgets, 3D items, videos, gallery items that are found in the panel at the left of the page. Professional files are being added by Pearson, Nelson, McMillan and more. Some companies are charging a nominal fee but if you are going to use the file for years, it will be worth the investment.

Card #10 Make it Match

Kids love games and so do I… especially when I can make them in less than five minutes and then use them over and over! The Lesson Activity Toolkit has many templates for these. Get your card of the month and make a game that will allow students to review something you are discussing in class. Even better get your students to make a game that reviews a concept.
