Hitachi’s Interactive Projectors

August 16, 2017

For an affordable interactive display, we love our Hitachi interactive projectors.  The images are crisp and the special pens powered by 2 AAA batteries are accurate and responsive.  I like the fact that this projector calibrates automatically and that software is included in the purchase.  Starboard software is fairly intuitive but if you wonder how to use it, there are lots of videos on Youtube.  One feature I love is that you can simply write a word in the interactive area of Starboard, click on the drop down menu and search for that word on internet.  There is no faster way of finding information!  The toolbox in the toolbar area contains a screen block, stopwatch, spotlight, some math tools and more!  You can write and quickly convert to text so that notes appear more professional.  Another feature of this projector is that it functions without a computer being attached.  Make notes and save these files so you can open them at a later date or save them to a usb and transfer them to a computer.  There are templates stored as well so when your computer is out for repair, use the Venn diagrams, the backgrounds for student writing and planning, do some brainstorming and much more.

A Cool Starboard Feature

June 8, 2016

Some of our classes use Starboard software because they have interactive Hitachi projectors.

I was playing around with handwriting on the board the other day and noticed that in the drop down menu of my word, there is the ability to do a search on internet.  Wow!  Handwrite a word and then search for that item on internet.  How easy is that!  Note that it only works when the computer is attached to the Hitachi interactive projector.

Add/Delete External Applications on Starboard Software

November 25, 2015

When using Hitachi’s Starboard software, you can quickly access other programs by linking them in the toolbox which is found in the floating menu.  Make sure your menu is open on your desktop.

  1. Click on the toolbox.
  2. At the bottom of the list that displays you will click on “Add/Delete External Applications”.
  3. Click on Add and navigate to and click on a program such as PowerPoint, Excel, Paint, Photoshop etc. that you want to be able to open quickly while in Starboard.
  4. Click on Close and the icon for that program will now appear on the menu for the toolbox.

Starboard Software Gallery

November 11, 2015

We have been trying out the Hitachi Starboard software with our new Hitachi interactive projector.  One of the things we really like is the Gallery.  At first we were not impressed because there were few things stored there.  However, we clicked on the little globe with the magnifying glass and did a search for levers and we got pages and pages of images that we could insert on the page.

Starboard’s search engine is great and it has provided tens of thousands of images that we can use for education.  This means we no longer have to do a two-step process of locating and saving files from the net.  Love it!

Shape Attributes using Starboard Software

October 21, 2015

I was telling you that we are beginning to learn how to use the Hitachi Interactive projector with Starboard software. We have been using shapes to help the students understand sides and vertices and commonalities and differences.

To do this we like the intelli-pen, the shapes and fill so we can set different colour attributes for our shapes. Find out how easy it is to draw and tailor shapes so you can increase student understanding of simple shapes by following this link to the Hitachi Interactive Projector video.

New Videos Uploaded for Starboard Software

September 23, 2015

Recently we got a new Hitachi Interactive Projector. Some of our teachers have SMART Boards and they use Notebook but the teacher who has the Hitachi wanted to find out about Starboard software which is provided with Projector. There are videos to help out anyone who has this software.

If you follow this link, you will find out how to launch the software and how to tailor the menu and your screen. You will learn also how to put a grid to your screen, how to move the menu around and how to add or remove the onscreen trash can.

Watch for details about more Hitachi videos.
